Test your monitor for dead or stuck pixels
Fill the screen with a solid color and look closely for any dot that does not fit in. A dead pixel stays black whatever color you show; a stuck pixel stays lit in its own color. Run through white, black, red, green, and blue and a faulty pixel will give itself away against at least one of them.
Use a white screen as a lightbox
A full white screen makes a quick, free lightbox. Lay a sheet of paper over the display to trace a drawing, or point it at yourself as a soft fill light for video calls and close-up photos. Push your screen brightness up for a brighter, more even glow.
Brightness, color temperature and uniformity
For lightbox or fill-light use, turn your screen brightness up so the white is bright and even. Bear in mind that "white" is not the same on every display: a warmer panel looks a little yellow and a cooler one a little blue, which matters when you are trying to match colors. A full white screen is also the easiest way to judge overall uniformity and to catch dust, smudges, or a yellow or pink tint across the panel.
Why doesn’t it open full screen on its own?
Almost every modern browser only lets a page go full screen in response to something you do, like a tap or a click, and never on its own. It is a built-in privacy and security rule, not something this site can switch off, so a page can’t jump straight to full screen the moment it loads. The good news is that it only ever costs you one click: as long as you do not want to change any settings, you pick your color or clock and it fills the screen right away.

Press Esc or double-click anywhere. On a phone or tablet, double-tap or long-press the screen.

Pure Background is free and needs no account, sign-up, or registration. It sets no cookies and runs no advertising or third-party tracking. The only thing it saves is your own settings: your custom color, and on the clock pages the format, color, size, brightness, and drift options. Those live in your browser’s localStorage so the tool can remember how you like it next time. They never leave your browser, they are never sent to us or shared with anyone, and you can wipe them any time by clearing your browser’s site data.
